About Me

Hello, my name is Tori Oliver (she/her/hers)

I am a third-year student at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with majors in marketing and advertising and a graphic design minor.

My interest in marketing and advertising stems from a persistent curiosity towards human behavior. As a kid, I loved bugging my parents by constantly asking “but why?” It’s that curiosity that drives me to try and understand why people make certain decisions and create strategies and content based on human behavior.

In my free time, I can be found outside and on the move. I’m always up for a hike or a trip to the farmers’ market. I love adventuring outdoors, eating great food, and exploring new places.

The Downtown Farmer’s Market is my favorite place to spend the morning with with good food and cute dogs everywhere!

In January of 2022, I had the opportunity to do all three as I studied abroad in Budapest, Hungary. My very first trip to Europe and I got to spend three weeks in the beautiful capital city! I took a three-week digital marketing course at Corvinus University with students from around the world. I enjoyed my time abroad so much that did it all again! I spent this past semester living in Lisbon, Portugal and studying at the University Institute of Lisbon. I took classes in international marketing, management, and Portuguese language with students from around the world. I used my time off from classes and studying to do some traveling and had the oppurtunity to explore Switzerland, Morocco, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, and Spain before heading back to the states for the start of the spring semester.

My passion for travel paired with my studies at Drake has fueled an interest in global marketing and my dream is to one day be in a position that allows me to work internationally. Currently, I’m exploring internship opportunities in the Des Moines and Twin Cities area and am interested in gaining some hands experience this summer.

On-campus I’m involved in the Drake Outdoor Leadership Club (DOLC) allowing me to connect with others who share my love for the great outdoors. In the past, I’ve traveled with DOLC to Sam Huston National Forest for a week of camping, hiking, canoeing, and relaxing in the warm Texas weather.

Last year I joined Drake’s chapter of the American Marketing Association. This year I am Vice President for Drake’s Coke Project team, a group working on an integrated marketing and sampling project for Coca-Cola. Last year’s project was a bit of a learning curve, but I had a lot of fun along the way and it all came together for our big presentation in May of 2022.
